Consultation has concluded. Thank you for your participation.

Our parks and trails help to define our high quality of life in many ways.

They encourage active lifestyles and active transportation, support recreational activities and special events, preserve natural heritage and wildlife habitat, strengthen tourist and economic development, and contribute to healthy communities.

We are committed to ensuring that the parks and trails system continues to meet resident needs into the future.

To achieve this, we have prepared a Parks and Trails Master Plan that sets priorities for improving and expanding our parks, open space and trail network over the next 10 years. Thank you to everyone who participated in our community engagement.

At the Dec. 10, 2020 Coordinated Committee meeting, council received the final Parks and Trails Master PlanSee the related presentation. Background material can be found in the Document Library on the right side of this page.

  • What is a Master Plan

Specifically, the Master Plan will identify priorities relating to:

    • park improvements and accessibility
    • parks and trails needs assessments and gap analysis
    • parkland policy and acquisition
    • playground replacement
    • trail connections and beach access trails
    • park and trail maintenance
    • signage and wayfinding

We need your help in answering these and other questions!

    • Do our parks and trails serve all ages and interests?
    • How can we make the best use of the parks and trails that we have?
    • What additional amenities are required to serve current and future residents?
    • Are our parks and trails accessible and in the right locations?
    • How can parks and trails assist the Town in meeting other quality of life objectives?
    • How can we improve access to the waterfront and connections with nature?
    • How can volunteers and other stakeholders contribute to a sustainable parks and trails system?

There are many ways for you to provide your input and ideas!

    • An online survey is available on this page. The survey asks questions about park and trail usage, needs and priorities. It takes about 10 minutes to complete and will be available until September 30, 2019.
    • You may attend an open house session to learn more about the project and to provide input for consideration in the Master Plan. This is a drop-in event with no formal presentation – project information will be available and the project team will be on hand to receive your input.
