Background

In mid-March 2020, the Town of Wasaga Beach, county, provincial and federal governments began taking quick action to protect the community from the spread of COVID-19. As a result, many businesses were required to temporarily close or reposition to offer online or pick up services. This posed many challenges for our business community.

The COVID-19 Business Recovery Task Force team has developed a response plan. The following outlines the response plan.

  • CLOSED: This survey has concluded.

The COVID-19 emergency measures have affected all families and business industries in Wasaga Beach. Among other municipal efforts, The Town of Wasaga Beach has established a COVID-19 Business Recovery Task Force whose purpose is to determine the best ways to enhance the economic well-being of our local businesses. The Business Recovery Task Force seeks your input in guiding the Town on its efforts to assist our local businesses.

The information you provide will help guide the Town of Wasaga Beach in developing economic recovery programs and community support for local businesses. The survey should only take approximately five minutes and will inform the following initiatives:

    • Identify advocacy opportunities from federal and provincial governments for policy reform and business support programs.
    • Municipal policy development for business recovery and business innovation.
    • Municipal service level changes that support the needs of local businesses.
    • Connectivity to build capacity, continuity, and development of community business supports and programs.
    • Marketing campaigns, events and/or other collaborations that can stimulate economic recovery.

Please note the following when considering your answers:

    • The role of local government is to help shape the future economic landscape through policies and regulations that support free market forces operating in a safe and equitable manner.
    • The Town is not in a position to provide financial relief for businesses in the form of loans under the limitations of the Municipal Act. This is the role of the federal and provincial levels of government. The Town can however assist in educating operators on relief options that are available through these levels of government and their respective agencies.
    • Expenditures to support business recovery are predominantly funded through the residential property tax base.
    • The municipality has the ability to alter regulations and policy under its control. An example of this is that Council recently exempted portable advertising signs on private property until September 30, 2020.
